Sonamura, 4 June 2022: Sonamura subdivision is a hunting ground for trafficking. Traffickers continue their smuggling business through the Sonamura border in the dark of night every night.
Recently, it has been seen that in these areas of Sonamura sub-division Kamalnagar, Matinagar, Kulubari, Ashabari, Rahimpur besides cannabis cultivation, many youths are involved in Yaba tablets, cattle smuggling, Phensidyl, Escof etc.. On the one hand, the smugglers has been evading the BSF in the dark of night, cutting the barbed wire fence of the border and smuggling various drugs including cattle to Bangladesh.
As part of this, 105 kg of cannabis was recovered from two large 3 three small blue drums after a two-hour search of the barn at an abandoned place near Russell Mia’s house in Rahimpur Purba Para Gram Panchayat Ward No. 4 under Kalamchaura Police Station on Saturday evening.
The police received a secret information that a large quantity of narcotics was being stored in the barn of Russell Miah, son of Bachchu Miah in Ward No. 4 of Rahimpur Gram Panchayat under Kalamchaura Police Station for smuggling to Bangladesh. Upon receiving the news, the police of Kalamchoura police station and BSF conducted a joint operation. A search revealed 105 kg of dried cannabis.
It is learned that the market value of the recovered cannabis is around Rs 5 lakh. The cannabis was stored underground for smuggling in Bangladesh. An NDPS case has been filed against Russell, police said.
Police and TSR and BSF of Kalamchaura police station conducted a joint operation in this operation.
