KAILASAHAR: In an electrifying display of skill and stamina, Assam Police secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory against Mizoram’s Mamit District FC on Monday. The match, held at the Ramakrishna Mahavidyalaya ground, marked the second day of the prestigious General Padmajung Memorial Invitation Football Tournament.
The match kicked off with Assam Police in red and Mamit District FC donning black. After winning the toss and opting for the southern end, Assam Police faced early pressure. The Mizoram side looked dangerous from the start, earning a free kick early on and dominating the offensive for much of the first half. However, despite their relentless attacks, they struggled to breach the Assam defense.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 32nd minute when Assam’s Saining Sangma (No. 36) found the back of the net with a brilliant strike, sending his team into the halftime break with a 1–0 lead.
The second half saw a spirited comeback from the Mizoram outfit. In a moment of individual brilliance, Samson (No. 16) leveled the score, restoring hope for Mamit District FC. The parity, however, was short-lived.
In the 59th minute, the crowd was treated to the goal of the tournament so far. Assam Police’s Jitendra Bordoloi unleashed a spectacular long-range shot from midfield that caught the keeper off-guard, sealing the 2–1 win for the policemen.
