Before the Asia Cup, Kohli had dropped to 33rd position in the T20I rankings, but he roared back into form in the multi-nation tournament smashing 276 runs in five games to rise to 15th place in the latest rankings.
Interestingly, Kohli is ranked 60th in ICC T20 all-rounders ranking, third best among Indian players after Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja.
The 33-year-old had endured a tough time in 2022 so far, with runs not freely flowing out of his bat as they did before. During India’s tour of England in July, Kohli’s highest score was 20 runs.
Afterwards, he decided to take a month-long sabbatical, revealing later in an interview that he didn’t touch the bat for a whole one month for the first time in his life.
Virat returned directly for the Asia Cup opener against Pakistan, rejuvenated, and recharged, he played a brisk 35-run knock in the first match, followed by consecutive fifties against Hong Kong and Pakistan.
