Centre’s ban on loan apps; Digital lending apps issue clarifications

0

Some digital lending apps on Wednesday issued clarifications as the industry entered a panic mode after the Centre banned nearly 138 gambling apps and 94 loan apps over “Chinese linkage” concerns.

One such platform, mPokket, said that the domain in the list issued by MeiTY — mpokket.en.aptoide.com — is a clear instance of “impersonation” and has no affiliation to mPokket whatsoever.

“Aptoide is a third-party app store with which we have no official or unofficial partnership. We suspect that it may be a proxy app on Aptoide and we are looking into it further. Blocking of such apps protects both the consumers and lenders. We at mPokket continue to bring the best service to our customers without any disruptions,” said the startup.

Some popular loan apps such as PayU’s buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) service LazyPay, Kissht, RupeeRedee and Faircent were also seen as part of a ‘partial’ ban list that was being floated around.

Sunny Mittal, VP-Compliance at RupeeRedee, said they haven’t received any official information from Google or government sources on banning the dubious version of the app.

“Having said that, we have no formal or informal partnership with Aptoide which is a third-party Android app store. We are speculating that it’s a proxy app on Aptoide. Blocking of the Aptoide link is a favourable outcome as for us, as our official website and Google Play Store is the primary source of trusted customer base,” Mittal said in a statement.

PayMe India said it is functional on Google PlayStore.

“There is a dubious app on Aptoide, which seems to have been blocked. We have received no communication from Google so far,” it added.

Following complaints against Chinese loan and betting apps, the IT Ministry began the process of banning 138 betting apps and 94 lending apps that had Chinese links, on the instructions of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) was recently instructed by the MHA to ban such apps, which operate through a third party link.

Sources said that all these apps were found violating Section 69 of the IT Act and contained materials which were deemed as threat to India’s sovereignty and integrity.

As per sources, these apps are used to trap financially strapped people in a debt trap, by increasing their interest on loans by up to 3,000 per cent.

The issue came to the fore after several cases of suicides by borrowers of these apps were reported from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Left-Cong joint protest against the OC of Dharmanagar Thana

0

Dharmanagar, 7th Feb 2023:

Left and Congress have openly spoken against Dharmanagar police station OC Shibu Ranjan. This time this meritorious police officer got the title as a BJP candidate. It is known that he is unwilling to listen to any complaint of the opposition, he accepts his case only when he receives a verbal complaint from the ruling party, this is the complaint of the Left Congress.

For several days in Dharmanagar, two anti-ruling parties have complained about the destruction of campaign decorations to the police station, but Shibu Ranjan is giving priority to the complaints of the ruling party. Allegedly, he is threatening the family members by entering the houses of the opposition party activists and supporters with the case of the opposition party CPM and Congress.

After knowing all these incidents, on Wednesday morning, the Left and the Congress jointly started a protest march against Shibu Ranjan, and Dharmanagar police station was surrounded. In the meantime, while showing his arrogance, he took a picture on his mobile phone of the Joint Left Congress leadership and activist supporters protesting in front of the police station and left. His reaction was such that he would take their picture and take a case against them. CPM leader Amitabh Dutta burst into anger after seeing this.

The level of agitation i.e, the volume of slogans was increased. At the sound of these slogans, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Debashish Saha rushed to listen to all the complaints of the protestors. Amitabh Dutta said that if the OC is not transferred elsewhere within the next 24 hours, there will be a strong movement against the Election Department by the Left and the Congress. He also congratulated the Election Department, Defense Administration Central Force, TSR.

Amitabh Dutta said that SDPO Debashish Saha has assured the leaders of the opposition party that he is investigating the incident. He will take action if the allegations are found to be true. However, if the opposition does not change the OC of Dharmanagar police station, which is adamant about their goal, then the Left Congress workers and supporters will jointly take to the streets in a strong movement.

CM Dr. Manik Saha inaugurates the district office of the BJP in Dharmanagar

Dharmanagar, 13 Jan 2023:

On Friday, the Chief Minister went to Dharmanagar to inaugurate the district office of the BJP in the northern district. At around 12:30 noon, the Chief Minister attended the inauguration ceremony after cutting the ribbon and unveiling the plaque of the district office at Dharmanagar Padmapur.

The party’s state president Rajeev Bhattacharya, Tripura Industry Development Corporation Chairperson Tinku Roy, State Prefect and Member of Parliament Mahendra Sharma, three MLAs of the district Malina Debnath, Vinay Bhushan Das, Bishwabandhu Sen, District President Bhabatosh Das and others were present on this occasion.

State President Rajeev Bhattacharya spoke at the inauguration ceremony at the BJP district office. He said, due to the opening of this BJP district office, the BJP will win six seats in the district in the next assembly elections from here. It is true that BJP could not win three seats in the previous 2018, but the way BJP won Yuvraj Nagar in the by-election, he is sure that BJP will win in six seats of the district this time. He also said that BJP will win 60 out of 60 seats in the state.

Speaking at the same forum, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said, on this same day, the state’s North Tripura, Dhalai and Gomati districts are getting the BJP party’s districts offices, and which are a temple to the BJP party. Other parties consider their party office as party office, but for BJP, party office is a temple. From this temple, the BJP party will decide the election strategy with its workers and supporters in the upcoming assembly elections. He took a dig at friendship of Congress – CPM and said that BJP will get more than 50 seats in this state if CPM joins Congress.

On this day, he asked the workers and supporters of the Congress party to reach the last stop of development by pressing the train of BJP. He said there is still a lot of space in the BJP train. BJP is the people’s government, this government is working for the people of the state. This BJP government is working for everyone from common people to government employees. During the corona epidemic in the past days, the BJP party has worked for the people on the instructions of the Prime Minister of the country. Made vaccines in the country and saved people.

He is hopeful that people will re-establish the BJP party in the state in the next assembly elections. He appealed to the people of the state not to fall into the trap of BamGress (CPM-congress), and the chief minister called for the re-establishment of the BJP government in the state.
