Tripura, Feb 28: In a significant development, an indefinite hunger strike commenced in Hathai Kotor on Wednesday, drawing the participation of numerous leaders from the TIPRA Motha Party, Indigenous Leaders, and social activists.
The royal scion, Maharaja Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, sought the blessings of Goddess Magalchandi before proceeding to the hunger strike spot in Hathai Kotor.
During his speech at the Hunger Strike event, Maharaja Pradyot received a call from Delhi, signaling discussions on the table regarding various demands raised by the TIPRA Motha Party. These demands primarily focus on achieving a permanent constitutional solution for the indigenous people of Tripura. Prior to departing the stage, Maharaja Pradyot addressed the gathering, urging them to maintain the stage until his return. He pledged to embark on his journey to Delhi without consuming any food and committed to continuing the hunger strike until fruitful discussions, recorded in writing, take place. Maharaja Pradyot expressed that upon his return, he would share positive news on the same stage and then conclude the hunger strike with a symbolic breaking of the fast.
Maharaja Pradyot emphasized, “First, I’ll provide for my people, and only then will I break my fast by eating something. A good leader always ensures his people are cared for before attending to his own needs.”
The hunger strike venue at Hathai Kotor is currently witnessing speeches from various leaders, attracting a massive gathering from all corners of the state.
The spotlight now shifts to Delhi, as the TIPRA Motha Party awaits to see the extent to which the central government will address their raised demands for a constitutional solution. The hunger strike symbolizes a collective effort by the indigenous people of Tripura to secure their rights and representation.
