Teliamura, 01 June 2022: Plastic rice found in the government ration shop has created a fear among the people in South Pulinpur under Teliamura subdivision.
It is learned that a fair price ration shop in South Pulinpur under Teliamura sub-division is run by a ration dealer named Chandan Das. Prasenjit Das, a resident of Kusar Tila area recently bought 35 kg of rice from South Pulinpur ration shop. The incident took place when the rice was seen floating in the water, while being washed before cooking.
They complained that the rice provided from the ration shop was a plastic rice. When the ration dealer was informed about this plastic rice, the ration dealer said that now the rice cannot be replaced. Meanwhile, there were various complaints seen about plastic rice from Teliamura including different areas of the state.
Meanwhile, locals, including Prasenjit Das’s family, complained that the Teliamura sub-divisional food department should take necessary steps to investigate the plastic rice issue. However, Teliamura subdivision food department official Shubhankar Chowdhury said, there is nothing to worry about the confusion of plastic rice. In the case of school rice, 45 rice is mixed at one kg per quintal. According to the sub-divisional food department, the rice contains zinc and vitamins. As a result, it helps in the nutrition and development of young children including pregnant women.
He further said that the State Food Department had disseminated information in various media to inform the people about all these issues. The department also said that if there were any consumer complaints about the rice, the ration dealer would take steps to make the ration consumers aware of these issues with the help of the state food department.
