The Opposition TIPRA Motha Sunday suspended senior leader Abu Khayer Miah from the party for six months for violating party discipline. Miah had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections held earlier this year as a TIPRA Motha candidate from the Boxanagar seat.
Miah’s suspension comes at a time when preparations are underway in the state for bypolls to two Assembly seats including Boxanagar.
While the TIPRA Motha has not put up any candidate in the bypolls, nor has it yet supported any other party, it suspended Miah after he publicly supported BJP candidates.
The Opposition leader also said Miah would not be able to participate in any party program during his suspension period.
Advocating support for BJP candidates, Miah had argued that the bypolls do not pose any threat to the BJP government in Tripura and so voters should support the saffron party.
