The incident of political violence took place in Dharmanagar of North district. An allegation of beating up a Congress worker was filed against the ruling party BJP-sponsored miscreant. The Congress workers protested in demand for the arrest of the accused within twenty-four hours and to file a case. The incident occurred in Nayapara area under Dharmanagar police station.
Giving details of the incident, Tripura Pradesh Congress member Chayan Bhattacharya said that when Congress worker Prabhat Malakar left his house in Nayapara area around Tuesday evening, he was allegedly beaten severely by a miscreant named Khoka Nath alias Jyotish, a member of the ruling party. He was beaten with an allegation as to why did he join the Congress party? and why did he participate in Bharat Jodo Yatra? The miscreant threatened to kill him if he did not leave the Congress party and join the BJP party.
Later that day at around 11:30 pm, a large group of Congress supporters led by Tripura Pradesh Congress member Chayan Bhattacharya, North District Congress Secretary Kankaj De, and Youth Congress District President Nirupam filed a case at the Dharmanagar police station regarding the injured Congress worker. The Congress party’s delegation has given a twenty-four-hour time limit to the police and said that if the accused is not arrested within twenty-four hours, Congress will organize a larger movement in a democratic manner.
