23 Sept 2022: Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine (Ukraine) raised a lot of anger in the United Nations (UN) session. On Thursday, he said that Russia attacked Ukraine (Russia-Ukraine War) many months ago. But the world’s most powerful country America (US) is kind of silent. The White House took no action against the attack. He also questioned why India and Japan are still not permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)? On this day, Zelensky expressed his anger about the policy of the United Nations.
Zelensky claimed that day, ‘Our efforts are always to establish peace. From north to south, peace in the world is our aim like the United Nations. But has anyone ever heard Russia say anything about this? But Russia is a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Why Russia will be in this position? What is the reason that India, Japan Brazil or Ukraine can not be permanent members? A day will surely come when this problem will also be solved.’
It should be noted that India itself has sought to become a permanent member of the Security Council many times. India has repeatedly claimed that the country is fit to become a permanent member of the Security Council. Currently, the United Nations has 5 permanent memberships and 10 non-permanent memberships. Country names are selected for this temporary membership every 2 years. The 5 permanent members of the Security Council are Russia, Britain, America, China and France. Permanent members have veto power. Powers that they can overrule any decision. Just as China has become a thorn in India’s path to becoming a permanent member of the Security Council. The country of dragons has repeatedly used its veto power to water down India’s plans.
Zelensky blamed the United Nations for the Russian attack. He also demanded to return the territory to Ukraine which is in the possession of Russia. Ukraine’s war with Russia lasted for about 7 months. But so far no action has been taken by America. Russia has already decided to deploy 300,000 troops in Ukraine last Wednesday. Russia claims that Western countries are plotting to destroy Russia.
After Zelensky’s comments, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar intervened. He said, ‘India not being a permanent member of the Security Council is a loss not only for India but for the whole world. This rule needed to be changed long ago. Jaishankar was asked, how long will it take for India to become a permanent member of the Security Council? He replied that the country is working vigorously in this regard.
